Monday, September 8, blood donation via bus at Palaceside Building west entrance.
Palaceside holds donations roughly twice a year, spring and fall. Last April's two-day drive: 94 registered, 81 donated—thank you. This time, one day only.
Tokyo Red Cross Blood Center says demand is rising with advanced medical care including cancer treatment, while donors decline with low birthrate and aging—chronic shortage. Tokyo needs 9,300 more units (400 ml equivalent) vs. last year, per the chart. Summer heat and heavy rain disrupted drives; the Red Cross seeks cooperation.
Reception: 10–11 a.m., 12:15–4 p.m. Drawing takes about 10 minutes; with medical interview, 30–40 minutes total.
The Red Cross generally requests 400 ml donations. Experienced donors know—it feels like
just a little (photo right from last time).
Since June, registration changed slightly—not difficult. Paper questionnaires are now on touch-panel tablets; finger-vein biometrics verify identity. With a donation card and PIN, data loads on the device; register a finger vein and next time just scan—no PIN. Staff say many forget PINs, so it's convenient. Vein registration is optional; PIN still works.
Target: 80 people—capacity if visitors keep coming; we'd be happy to get close. Building tenants, neighbors, passersby—please help.
