A news photo exhibition of the Sochi Olympics (Feb 7–23) and Paralympics (from Mar 7) opened this week in the open space beside the east main entrance on Palaceside Building 1F. Office workers, shop visitors and passersby stop to look.

Hosted by The Mainichi Newspapers. Mainichi photographers Yamamoto Susumu, Konoha Kenji and Kaizuka Taichi captured medalists including Yuzuru Hanyu (figure skating men), Noriaki Kasai (ski jumping) and Ayumu Hirano (snowboard halfpipe)—eight gold-silver-bronze sets

—forty-five top shots in all.

Popularity rivals Hanyu: Mao Asada in ladies' singles—remember her free skate leap from 16th to 6th, moving Japan and the world? The show's center features her tearful finish (photo upper left, Mainichi evening edition Feb 21 front page) . "We hope photos let you relive the emotion," say organizers.

Latest Paralympic photos (photographer Miyama Toshiki) are also on display.

Through March 20 (Thu); closed March 16 (Sun). Hours 9–20 (until 17 on the last day).

Mainichi also publishes a Sunday Mainichi special "Sochi Winter Olympics Complete Record" (¥1,000) collecting these images.
