A developing southern-coast low moving northeast brought snow from Kyushu on the night of the 13th; Tokyo saw flakes from the morning commute on the 14th. When I reached Palaceside Building it was still light, but intensity grew. By past 9 a.m. the roof was white, and Hirakawa Gate by the Imperial Palace wore snow. The metro area may turn to rain from the 15th, but the evening commute on the 14th needs care—Valentine's may be a white one.

JMA forecast 24-hour snowfall through 6 p.m. on the 14th: up to 40 cm Koshin; 20 cm Hakone–Tama–Chichibu, Shizuoka/Gifu mountains, Kinki mountains, Shikoku ranges; 15 cm Aichi mountains; 10 cm Kanto north/south plains, Tama west, Mie, Kinki north/central plains; 5 cm Tokyo 23 wards.

On the 14th cold air at 1,500 m will be −6 to −3°C; downtown lows 1°C (high 3°C). Morning snow should strengthen as the low approaches—not matching the record of the 8th, but watch for icy roads this weekend.
