Forgive the self-congratulation, but Palaceside Building has received a letter of appreciation from Tokuryu Juichi, director of planning and coordination at the Tokyo Fire Department. As part of the autumn fire-prevention campaign (November 9–15), our “meritorious active promotion of fire-prevention publicity for community safety” was recognized.

What exactly did we do? As building managers, I think they valued our daily fire and disaster prevention efforts — keeping equipment compliant with fire regulations, organizing a self-defense fire brigade, and urging tenants to participate in spring and autumn drills.

Also, we contributed an article on the building’s fire-prevention efforts to issue 206 (Sep

tember publication) of “Prometheus,” the public relations magazine of Kojimachi Fire Station =photo left; that may also have been considered for this letter of appreciation.

In March we also received a letter of appreciation from the fire commissioner. Running a building means doing what should be done; still, it is an honor that our efforts were noticed. We will keep working to remain a “safe and secure” building worthy of such recognition.
