Palaceside Building is conducting legally required indoor fire-hydrant inspection and hose pressure tests through September 27.

Many of you have seen hydrants like the photo at right by restroom entrances. There are 93 locations, two hoses each — 186 hoses. We cannot have no water or damaged hoses in an emergency, so checks never stop. Hydrants are inspected every six months; hoses must be replaced after ten years, or pressure-tested every three years if kept longer. Tests use dedicated equipment = photo top =, applying specified pressure (0.7 MPa) for five minutes to check for leaks.
We also completed six-month fire-extinguisher checks — over 400 in the building. We sample a set ratio for disassembly = photos below =: fix the body and open the lid, remove contents, adjust and reassemble — sweaty work in lingering summer sun.
