Repainting of the rooftop benches that had troubled Palaceside tenants and visitors is almost done. Weather affects the work, but it should be back around the 17th after the long weekend. (Photo above is a section already renewed.)
From Palaceside’s roof you can take in the city, Skytree and Tokyo Tower, and on clear days Fuji in the far valley of buildings. It is a corner we are proud of.
The roof has 101 backrest benches for three or four people and 12 smoking benches as a rest space. The 101 look like ordinary wooden benches you see anywhere, but we were a little particular: not four legs, only two, one on each side. They are set firmly in the floor; the pipe rises in an S and one pipe holds both the seat and the back. Two-legged, standing slim — a very stylish bench. Unlike a normal four-leg bench, though, maintenance takes a little more work.
So this time we checked whether the S-bend of the pipe legs had deformed, whether screw areas and bends holding the wooden seat had cor
roded, whether the wood had cracks or other wear, and at the same time repainted the pipes and wooden seats. Three benches had backs tilted a little too far; we returned them to the same angle as the others. If those three recliner-like seats were someone’s favorites — sorry.
As you know, the Palaceside roof is open from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. In the coming season you can also enjoy a fresh autumn wind up there.
(The middle photo is the pipe legs with the seat off — the two S-shaped feet. The lower photo is a seat finished in olive wood-protecting paint.)
