The Tokyo Fire Department Kojimachi Fire Station fire drill competition was held on the 25th at Kitanomaru Park Parking Lot No. 3 (1-1 Kitanomaru-koen, Chiyoda Ward). Palaceside Building's "Mainichi Building Co. Self-Defense Fire Brigade" also took part.
Fires spread rapidly over time; whether they can be extinguished or spread stopped within a set time is said to be key. That makes self-defense fire brigades vital.
To improve skills at large facilities bearing this heavy duty, each fire station holds an annual competition. This time, 43 teams totaling 129 people (3 per team) competed in four categories: Men's A, Men's B, Women's, and Security. The scenario: an earthquake with injuries and fire. Teams were judged on how quickly and accurately they performed protection, first aid, and firefighting.
The women's team drew hot attention with brisk movements= photo right =. Next, the "Mainichi Building Co. Self-Defense Fire Brigade"
showed results of daily training as one of 14 top-level security teams= photo top. Our team was a powerhouse — runner-up three years ago, champion two years ago — but this time, while initial firefighting went smoothly, a small mistake in first aid for the injured cost us advancement.
At Palaceside Building, tenants and all join drills including New Year's first ceremony, spring and autumn comprehensive training. This competition renewed my sense of how vital daily preparedness is.
