The Kanto region entered the rainy season yesterday. Downtown rain is not yet heavy, but sudden localized downpours seem to be increasing. So Palaceside Building recently held a flood-control drill to prepare for water damage.
About 50 people took part, including Mainichi Building Co. staff, building security, facility managers, and cleaning staff. First, they practiced closing two building entrances leading to Takebashi Station ticket gates on B2 with flood barriers. Floor blocks and ceiling panels can be removed; after removing them, they pulled out flood doors about 20 cm thick reaching the ceiling and fixed them with reinforcing bars.Photo upper left shows the doors being pulled out in front of the station shop.
Next, they practiced installing waterproof boards above the parking entrance ramp.
In the afternoon, they inspected and maintained sandbags. Storage locations on B2, 5F, and 6F
total ten spots with 400 bags always on hand. Left alone, bags collect dust and deteriorate—useless when needed if they tear. So they refilled with new bags= photo upper left. Hard work: each sandbag weighs about 10 kg. In cramped, dusty, humid spaces, everyone was drenched in sweat—a reminder of daily lack of exercise. Tough going~(´Д`;)
To respond immediately in an emergency, daily crisis awareness and regular drills matter—I felt that strongly all day.
