Tax filing season is approaching. This year's final tax return acceptance runs from Monday, February 18 through Friday, March 15. At the open space beside the main entrance on the first floor of Palaceside Building in Takebashi, Tokyo, a free tax consultation hosted by the Kojimachi Corporate Association District 8 and the Kojimachi Branch of the Tokyo Certified Public Tax Accountants' Association was held from 10 a.m. on the 13th to answer questions about how to file and other tax return concerns.
Four tax accountants from the Kojimachi branch and one official from the Kojimachi Tax Office handled consultations. People who needed to file—such as those with income from two or more sources last year or side income of ¥200,000 or more from lectures—and those seeking various deductions for medical expenses and the like asked about points they did not understand, how to fill out forms, and so on. Some learned how to file electronically on two computers set up at the venue, and others had tax accountants file on their behalf.
According to the branch, there were no major tax reforms last year and consultation topics did not change much; as every year, many asked about stock losses, lifetime gifts, and inheritance tax. About fifty people came that day alone. The session continues on the 14th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the same location.
