On the 9th, the first day of the nationwide autumn fire-prevention campaign, Palaceside Building in Takebashi, Tokyo, held a comprehensive fire drill. In a joint exercise with the Kōjimachi Fire Station (Chief Ogawa Kazuyuki), talent Maki Hisako served as one-day fire chief and directed the drill.
Training began on the scenario that a magnitude-5-plus earthquake struck the Tokyo area and a fire broke out on the west side of the building's first floor. About 400 people inside evacuated via emergency stairs while the building's volunteer fire brigade conducted rescue drills for the injured.
Special rescue team members from Kōjimachi Fire Station descended at once by rope down the 42-meter brick wall on the building's west end

in an emergency evacuation demonstration; then, at Maki's call of "Begin simultaneous water discharge" from the aerial platform bucket of a ladder truck at the west entrance, pump trucks and the volunteer brigade's hydrants sprayed the building together, and participants applauded warmly. The bucket rose to about 10 meters; Maki said, "Japan's top rescue team was here, so I felt safe even up high."
