In western Canada, the popular "foot" is the seaplane — Vancouver Olympic hotel guests wake to roar at dawn.

Vancouver's island-studded harbor is calmer than the Seto Inland Sea — natural runways in the bays. Business travelers and tourists fly like taxis from early morning.

Victoria — "more British than Britain" — is 30–40 minutes by air vs 3–4 hours including ferry access. Costlier by 3–4×, but time and aerial views justify it.

Inland lakes offer runways too — yacht mornings, ski afternoons. Lunch, land by seaplane, ski — natural there.

Japan's seaplanes are mainly Self-Defense Force — not common. Linking Seto and Lake Biwa or Tokyo Bay and Kasumigaura would skip jams — but traffic is too heavy.
