Continuing Asakura Fumio (1883–1964).
After noting his Okuma statue at Waseda, readers said "Keio has one too."
Not Fukuzawa Yukichi — at Keio Mita, Heiwa Kitaru (Peace Comes) = photo top = stands before the central administration building, dedicated to Keio members killed in war. 1932 graduates donated it for their 25th anniversary in 1957. An inscription by former president Koizumi Shinzo reads: "On peaceful days upon the hill, I think of those who marched and never returned." Nearby: a 1998 memorial to classmates who did not return.
Another Asakura work: the bust of Osanai Kaoru on "Literature Hill" east of the old library = photo bottom =. Founder of Tsukiji Little Theatre and father of modern Japanese drama — Keio ties from 1910 lecturer; Tsukiji began after a May 1924 lecture at Mita Hall. Friends commissioned the bust in 1958; moved to Mita in 1964.
From Takebashi: 5 min walk to Jimbocho, 10+ min on Toei Mita Line, 7–8 min walk.
