Tokyo Skytree is open at last — TV in a frenzy! "Frenzy" sounds dated outside pachinko... yet solar eclipse coverage used "fever" in headlines, so maybe it lives.
Newspapers cover Skytree daily. On May 19 the Mainichi Tokyo morning edition ran a photo of Palaceside Building shot from Skytree — from the paper; grainy from a 200mm lens and crop, but green Imperial Palace backdrop gives nice atmosphere.
Reporter Keigetsu Hirai of the Mainichi Tokyo bureau filed from a pre-opening visit to the 350m Tembo Deck:
"Tokyo Dome (Koraku, Bunkyo) is obvious to the naked eye. From there I searched — too many buildings. A 200mm lens helped: Meiji University's dome about 1 km away, Keidanren Kaikan in Otemachi, then Palaceside Building's twin cylindrical elevator halls — maybe ten minutes to find them."
Palaceside Building is about 5 km straight from Skytree — slightly right of Tokyo Tower (about 9 km from Skytree), roughly midway between the two towers.
If you visit Skytree, pick a landmark target — it may add to the fun.
