On White Day, March 14, a "400 ml blood donation for patients" drive was held at the west entrance of Palaceside Building in Takebashi, Tokyo. According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Red Cross Blood Center, the Fukushima nuclear accident and the Great East Japan Earthquake have made it impossible to send mobile blood-donation buses to Fukushima's coastal areas, leaving the Tohoku region critically short of blood for transfusions and requiring weekly shipments from Tokyo. Blood shortages are also severe at this time of year because many people are unwell with flu or colds or taking medication for hay fever and thus ineligible to donate.

On the 14th, a Japanese Red Cross blood-donation bus parked in front of the west entrance, with registration starting there at 10 a.m. Donors completed procedures at the west entrance, boarded the bus, underwent medical screening, and gave blood. The center set a goal of collecting from 28 type O, 24 type A, 16 type B, and 12 type AB donors at Palaceside Building, and staff called on passersby to participate.
