A memorial exhibition for Shoji Hayashi—who created Palaceside Building in Takebashi, Tokyo, and many other landmark buildings, and passed away at 83 on November 30 last year—opened at the building on the 10th, recalling his achievements through photographs and more.
After graduating from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Hayashi joined what is now Nikken Sekkei. Besides Palaceside Building, he designed the Sankai Dream Center in Ginza, the Pola Gotanda Building, the Press Center Building, and was known as a leading office-building architect. He served as Nikken Sekkei vice president, honorary advisor, and Japan Institute of Architects president.
At the venue by the first-floor front entrance, a portrait, brief biography, and flowers were displayed; panels showed Palaceside Building highlights, construction photos, and representative works. A newsreel on the building and a DVD on its modernist architecture played on the stair wall. Building and architecture professionals visited, rediscovering the architect's excellence.
