A few minutes from Palaceside Building, on the Gakushikaikan grounds (Kanda Kincho), stands a monument to "the birthplace of Japanese baseball." One wonders why here—not Jingu Stadium or the old First High School ground?
Because this was where Tokyo University began. At the predecessor Kaisei School on this site, in Meiji 5 (1872), American teacher Horace Wilson taught baseball to students—hence "birthplace of Japanese baseball," as inscribed on the monument shaped like a ball-holding right hand.
The bronze monument is 2.4 m high; a world map on the ball expresses baseball as an international sport.

Takebashi and Kanda are historic—strolling brings "Oh!" discoveries, like a TV neighborhood walk.
