In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the opening of Palaceside Building, the Mainichi Shimbun held a symposium titled "Architecture and 'Places of Creation': From the Past to the Future" (special sponsorship by Nikken Sekkei) on September 1 at Nikken Sekkei's "PYNT Takebashi" on the 5F of Palaceside Building.
Architect Sou Fujimoto, designer of the "Grand Ring" symbol of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, delivered a keynote lecture titled "Masterpieces of Architecture That I Love," pointing out that Palaceside Building "combines Western modernism with traditional Japanese architecture."
In the following panel discussion, actor and licensed architect Michiko Tanaka and Chairman Tadao Kamei of Nikken Sekkei, the firm that designed Palaceside Building, joined the conversation to discuss the appeal and merits of Palaceside Building.
