Tokyo Architecture Festival 2026 (organized by the Tokyo Architecture Festival Executive Committee), Japan’s largest architecture event, reached its final day on the 24th. The Palaceside Building held a special opening of its rooftop garden. The roof, normally open only on weekdays, was opened for two weekend days. About 2,700 people went up on the first day, the 23rd, and on this second day as well, visitors enjoying the view from the roof kept coming.
The special exhibition in the show window beside Mainichi Hall on the first basement level and elsewhere also closed. Architecture fans lingered over Joan Miró’s “祝毎日” (134 cm × 69 cm), written 60 years ago, photographs of the exterior and interior at the time of opening, and actual pieces such as air-conditioning outlets and the special bricks stacked on the walls.
