On Friday the 13th next week, the Tokyo Metropolitan Red Cross Blood Center will send a bloodmobile to the west entrance of the Palaceside Building to call for donors. Among those who give blood, a lottery will award souvenirs to up to two people each: (1) a quick hair-dry towel, (2) a USB heater mat, (3) premium tissues, (4) 300 grams of “kengoku-mai” rice presented to the Imperial Household, and (5) roll-type dental floss. Please consider donating.

The Palaceside Building hosts blood-donation sites twice a year, in spring and autumn. On the day, reception runs from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. so that people can use the lunch hour. The draw itself takes about 10 minutes, but with interviews and other steps the visit lasts 30 to 40 minutes from check-in to finish. Donors receive test results including ALT (GTP) and γ-GTP.

The center says “we need 60 or more participants.” Advance reservations help ease crowding. Reservations:
