On the 13th the display was refreshed in the show window beside the Mainichi Shodokai entrance on the first floor of the Palaceside Building. A decoration appeared in which arrows fly toward a large target covered with calligraphy of this year’s zodiac animal, the Horse, and related characters.
The pieces were used at “Contemporary Calligraphy 2026 New Year Exhibition: Ink Flowers Alive Today” (organized by The Mainichi Newspapers and the Mainichi Shodokai), held in Ginza, Tokyo, from the 4th through the 9th of this month. The calligraphy of “Horse,” “Horse,” “uma,” and other characters on the target was written by 26 people, including the association’s supreme advisers, standing advisers, advisers, directors, auditors, and recipients of the Mainichi Art Award.
