A “Hokuriku and Kyushu Products Fair,” gathering sweets and other foods from the two regions, has been underway since this week in the free space beside the main entrance on the first floor of the Palaceside Building. Both Hokuriku and Kyushu offer distinctive local flavors, and the fair is busy with visitors seeking something good to eat.
The three Hokuriku prefectures of Fukui, Toyama, and Ishikawa, and the seven Kyushu prefectures of Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima have each followed their own histories—and their food cultures have evolved in kind. From Hokuriku the stalls feature habutae mochi and other famous sweets, white-shrimp rice crackers, nodoguro ramen, kintsuba, dried firefly squid, and Himi udon; from Kyushu, castella, walnut yubeshi, marubouro, imo kenpi, and charcoal-grilled local chicken, among other items.
The fair runs through Friday the 14th of this month.
