The Tanabata Festival under way at the Palaceside Building is reaching its peak, with the bamboo decorations lining the first-basement corridor now laden with countless paper strips bearing visitors' wishes. Early next week, over the three days from the 7th through the 9th, a prize drawing offering luxurious prizes will be held.

The drawing is organized by the Palaceside Building Meitenkai, an association of restaurants and shops in the building headed by chairwoman Mamiko Ishioka. During the festival, member stores have handed out one voucher for every 500 yen spent, and five vouchers earn one spin of the garapon prize drum.

Top prizes include an Apple Watch, wireless earphones, and a toaster (one each) for first prize, hair dryers (five) for second prize, and travel vouchers worth 50,000 yen (six) for the Mainichi Building Co. Award. The drawing runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day from the 7th through the 9th.
