A family of carp streamers has been swimming gracefully this week through the atrium on the first basement level and first floor of the Palaceside Building. Together with streamers, a black magoi, a red higoi, and a blue child carp line up side by side. They are fine pieces made with Gujo honzome, a traditional craft of Gifu Prefecture. On the side wall, a streamer re-creating “kanzarashi”—a winter process of rinsing in icy water—is also on display for the first time.

The Palaceside Building Meitenkai began hanging the streamers in 2009 so that “people who work in the building can feel the season.” Large tapestries of “Fujin” and “Raijin” in Gujo honzome have been hung for the first time, and mini streamers also swim at shop and office entrances on the first floor and B1.
