One work each by four calligraphers who held “Four People, Four Kinds, Four Scripts” in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, in February is on view in the Mainichi Shodokai show window on the first floor of the Palaceside Building. The display runs through April 10.
The four are Ganpo Iwashima of the Kanagawa Independent Calligraphers Association (large-character calligraphy), Keiko Ono of Keiseikai (avant-garde calligraphy), Ikuko Tochigi of Shotosha (modern-poetry calligraphy), and Rizan Sano of Chobun Shokai (large-character calligraphy)—all jury members of the Mainichi Calligraphy Exhibition. Belonging to different groups and styles, they deepened ties through the calligraphy festival “Kanagawa Shodo Matsuri,” and February’s show was their first joint exhibition.
At the first-floor gallery Art Salon Mainichi, “2025 Mainichi Calligraphy Exhibition New Member Artists Exhibition” (organized by The Mainichi Newspapers and the Mainichi Shodokai), introducing works by artists who will be promoted to members of the Mainichi Calligraphy Exhibition in April, runs through April 5. Admission is free.
