Under a developing low and strong cold air aloft, a wide area of the Kanto region saw snow on the morning of the 19th, especially along the mountains, and central Tokyo also had a spell of heavy snow. The rooftop of the Palaceside Building turned into a snowscape in an instant.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, temperatures in central Tokyo kept falling from before dawn on the 19th, so rain turned to snow or sleet; at 10:00 a.m., when the temperature was 0.7°C, one centimeter of snow was observed. The agency warned that through evening snow could accumulate even in Tokyo’s 23 wards, especially on roads and sidewalks with little traffic, and called for caution against transport disruptions and falls while walking.

Weather will recover from the afternoon of the 19th, but a cold north wind will strengthen, so continue to watch for icy surfaces.
