On the 13th of this month the Palaceside Building held an earthquake-response drill for building staff. About 50 people took part, including employees of Mainichi Building Co. and staff from security, facilities, and cleaning contractors. The building conducts various drills throughout the year against fire and earthquakes; this earthquake-response drill was the last of the year.
The scenario assumed that on a Saturday night in December a magnitude-7.0 earthquake centered in the Tokyo area struck at intensity 6-upper, abruptly stopping an escalator and injuring six users who fell. Because it was a holiday night, the response was organized around the disaster-prevention center.
Staff confirmed and secured radio communications and contact methods, notified partner companies, and reviewed procedures through life-saving practice with an automated external defibrillator (AED), a carry drill, and extinguisher discharge training for the injured.
