An advanced lifesaving course for Palaceside Building tenants was held on the 9th at Mainichi Hall on the first basement floor, where participants learned how to operate an AED (automated external defibrillator) and acquired the skills and knowledge to respond to sudden illness and injuries. In addition to 32 people from 18 tenant offices in the Palaceside Building, 13 people from the Mainichi Nihonbashi Building, which is managed by Mainichi Building Co., also took part.

First aid courses fall broadly into two types: the standard lifesaving course, which covers adult CPR, AED use and removal of airway obstructions, and the advanced lifesaving course, which adds CPR for children and infants, wound care, methods for keeping patients warm, body positioning and transport techniques. Since 2014, a decade ago, the Palaceside Building has hosted advanced lifesaving courses for tenants with the goal of placing at least one certified course graduate in every office.

Led by four instructors from the Tokyo Disaster Prevention and Emergency Medical Service Association, the course began at 9 a.m. and continued until evening -- about eight hours in all, with a break for lunch -- packed with intensive hands-on training.
