Ahead of the rainy season, Palaceside Building staff held a flood-defense drill last weekend on the 12th, practicing closing flood doors at two entrances and installing flood boards at the underground parking entrance and other points around the building.

At the second-basement entrance leading to the Takebashi subway ticket gates, several people pulled out the stored flood door and fixed it with reinforcing steel bars from inside. At the underground parking entrance they installed flood boards and reviewed the procedure.

According to the Japan Weather Association, this year's rainy season is expected to bring more rainfall because sea-surface temperatures in the tropical Indian Ocean are high and warm, moist air is more likely to flow toward Japan.
