A developing low over the sea east of Japan has brought very strong winds to Tokyo on the 27th, as on the previous day. Hachioji recorded a maximum instantaneous wind speed of 28.1 meters per second, the strongest for February on record there. Amid the fierce gusts, two Kawazu cherry trees in front of the Marubeni head office next to the Palaceside Building have reached their peak.
Strong winds caused some rail services in the Tokyo area to halt and disrupted timetables. Kanto winds are expected to pass their peak by evening. The Kawazu cherries swayed their branches widely yet bloomed daintily, refusing to yield to the gale.
