Colorful Japanese umbrellas and glossy lanterns draw you in. A Kyoto products fair gathering popular sweets and gourmet foods from Kyoto opened on the 13th in the free space beside the main entrance on the first floor of the Palaceside Building. The building's first Kyoto fair runs through Wednesday the 22nd of this month, excluding weekends.

Staples such as raw yatsuhashi, warabimochi, kuzumochi, kohakuto, soba-boro and yokan line the tables, along with newly introduced sweets. Besides Uji tea there are assorted pickles—shibazuke, suguki and narazuke—plus Kyoto specialties such as chirimen-sansho, yuba, bamboo-shoot rice mix, chestnut rice mix, "hachimi" with Kujo negi, and morokyu miso with Kujo negi.

Several items were marked down to half price. Kyoto lovers, do drop by.
