Mainichi Mail-Order Mainichi-kan Palaceside Building, a shop gathering fresh produce and popular mail-order goods, opens at 11 a.m. on the 20th on the west side of the building's first basement floor. To mark the opening, the first 100 paying customers each day from the 20th through the 22nd will receive farm-fresh vegetables sourced from Michi-no-Eki Okabe in Fukaya, Saitama Prefecture.
The store is operated by Mainichi Advertising Inc., an affiliate of The Mainichi Newspapers. It is a brick-and-mortar outlet of the mail-order business advertised in the Mainichi Shimbun and elsewhere, carrying freshly harvested Fukaya vegetables, black tea, artificial bonsai and lifelike HANSA plush toys, among other items. Rarer offerings include one-of-a-kind Asian folk crafts and framed calligraphy brushed by noted artists from the Mainichi Calligraphy Exhibition. Also on the shelves are the soothing "Ama-kami Hamu Hamu" chew toys and a portable radio-television as a disaster-preparedness item.
Mainichi-kan is open weekdays, Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
