More than 20 kinds of colorful daifuku! IroHa daifuku, on sale from the 10th of this month in the popup space on the east side of the Palaceside Building's first basement, is popular especially with women. Made with Shiga Habutae glutinous rice, the daifuku offers a pleasant softness and a new, mochi-like bite. Sales run through Friday the 14th of this month.
IroHa is a new brand created in 2020 by Tenpei Foods, based in Takashima, Shiga Prefecture. As wagashi lose ground, the company set out to deliver products that please everyone from children to older people, and the new-style daifuku was born.
Flavors number more than 20 — an-butter, mandarin, muscat, mont blanc, custard, strawberry milk and more — and the pieces have stretch, koshi and stickiness. They also won the grand prize at Takashima's fifth "Good Things, Good Deeds Grand Prix." Please try them once.
