Ahead of the rainy season, Palaceside Building staff held a flood-defense drill last weekend on the 14th, practicing closing flood doors at two entrances and installing flood boards at the underground parking entrance.

At the second-basement entrance leading to the Takebashi subway ticket gates, they worked to pull out the stored flood door. About 20 centimeters thick and reaching the ceiling, it is quite heavy. After removing the floor cover to expose the rails, they applied oil so the door would slide, removed the ceiling cover as well and drew the door out with several people. Finally they fixed reinforcing steel bars from inside the building and completed the closing.

Urban flooding from typhoons and concentrated downpours has become frequent in many places in recent years. The annual drill confirms the procedure so the building is ready when it matters.
