Tomorrow, the 3rd, Golden Week enters its second half. It is the first holiday period without activity restrictions in four years, and resort areas are crowded. At the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, next to the Palaceside Building, art fans lined up on the 2nd for tickets to the 70th-anniversary exhibition "Secrets of Important Cultural Properties" (organized by The Mainichi Newspapers and others).

The first show devoted to Important Cultural Properties in so-called modern art — paintings, sculpture and crafts from the Meiji era onward — arrays masterpieces such as Takahashi Yuichi's "Salmon," Kano Hogai's "Merciful Mother Kannon," Kishida Ryusei's "Reiko Smiling," Yokoyama Taikan's "Metempsychosis," Kuroda Seiki's "Lakeside" and Yorozu Tetsugoro's "Nude Beauty." With little more than two weeks left until the 14th of this month, attendance is rising.

From today, the 2nd, through the close on the 14th, the museum is extending hours until 8 p.m. with temporary evening opening (except May 8).
