Tomorrow, the 11th, marks 12 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake. On the 10th the Palaceside Building held a comprehensive fire drill based on the scenario of a major earthquake. The drill, conducted each spring and autumn during National Fire Prevention Week, drew about 250 tenant and building staff.

At 2:30 p.m. a building announcement said a strong tremor had struck the capital, and the drill began. After taking cover under desks, a fire was assumed and an evacuation broadcast sounded; employees from shops and offices on the first basement through the ninth floor used emergency stairs and other routes to reach the ground.

Roof training then included initial extinguishing with fire extinguishers, discharging indoor hydrants, first aid with AEDs (automated external defibrillators), a 119-call drill at the west entrance and a session on an earthquake-experience vehicle; participants took on each one.
