Filing of 2022 tax returns begins next week on the 16th. Ahead of that, a free tax-return consultation (organized by the Kojimachi Branch of the Tokyo Certified Public Tax Accountants' Association) opened on the 8th for a planned three days in the free space beside the main entrance on the first floor of the Palaceside Building. Each day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., tax accountants from the branch take turns offering advice.
Because of the pandemic, this is the first consultation at the building in three years, since 2020. Even if you are not a high earner required to file, filing can still be worthwhile. Cases such as (1) building, buying or renovating a qualifying home with a housing loan, (2) damage from disaster or theft, (3) large medical expenses, or (4) specified donations such as hometown tax may lead to an income-tax refund.
According to the National Tax Agency, more than 85 percent of people, also because of COVID-19, file from home via e-Tax and similar systems without visiting a filing venue. Why not come for advice before you file? To prevent crowding, the Kojimachi Branch also takes advance reservations at 03-3264-0049.
