The Palaceside Building self-defense fire brigade held its traditional New Year de-zome-shiki on the roof on the morning of the 6th, with about 50 building staff taking part. Under a blue sky they trained briskly at the commander's direction.

The ceremony began at 10 a.m. Brigade chief Kazuhisa Nakai, president of Mainichi Building Co., noted in his New Year remarks that "this year marks 100 years since the Great Kanto Earthquake" and stressed the importance of regular training. Participants called out loudly as they practiced with extinguishers and indoor hydrants and operated AEDs (automated external defibrillators).

The Palaceside Building's de-zome-shiki has been held every year since January 10, 1967, three months after the building opened, except in 2021, when it was cancelled because of COVID-19.
