A collection box for used stamps sits on the long table in front of the post office on the first floor of the Palaceside Building. The Tokyo Regional Postmasters' Wives Association installed it about a year ago with the post office's cooperation; collected stamps are donated to the social welfare councils of Chiyoda and Chuo and put to use in welfare work.
According to the postal-industry paper Tsushin Bunka Shinpo, the association has collected used stamps since 2003 to advance social welfare and given them to municipal welfare councils. Over 18 years through 2021 it recovered about 2,162 kilograms of stamps, worth about 1.3 million yen in conversion.
Notes for donors: (1) any kind of stamp is welcome; (2) cut stamps from envelopes or postcards leaving 5 millimeters to 1 centimeter of margin; (3) do not cut off the perforated edges; (4) there is no need to peel stamps from backing; (5) do not fasten them with staples or rubber bands.
If you have used stamps on hand, please help.
