An “advanced first-aid course” hosted by Mainichi Building Co. for Palaceside Building tenants was held on the 5th at Mainichi Hall on the basement first floor. Participants learned how to operate an AED (automated external defibrillator) and other skills and knowledge for responding to sudden illness and injury. Thirty-five people from 17 tenant offices in the Palaceside Building took part, along with 10 staff from the Mainichi Nihonbashi Building, which Mainichi Building Co. also manages.
The course began at 9:00 a.m. with four instructors from the Tokyo Disaster Prevention and Emergency Association, a public-interest foundation, and ran through the evening with a lunch break. It was not the usual classroom lecture but centered on practice: cardiopulmonary resuscitation including chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth with a mouthpiece on a human-shaped dummy, first aid, foreign-body removal, and carrying methods.
Since 2014 the Palaceside Building has run the advanced first-aid course with the goal of “placing at least one person who has completed the course in each office.”
