Results are in from the blood drive held on October 14 and 15 in front of the west entrance of the Palaceside Building. The organizer, the Tokyo Metropolitan Red Cross Blood Center, reported: “Of 82 people who applied, 69 were able to donate.” Thank you very much for your cooperation.

A colleague of ours marked a milestone this time: a 70th donation. Asked how it started, he said that as a child a neighbor who was a nurse told him, “One way to be of use to the world is to give blood.” There were stretches when work kept him from coming, but he kept at it steadily and reached 50 donations in 2005. The Japanese Red Cross Society presented him with a commemorative gift under its donor recognition rules. That record can be read from the stamps on his donor card.

“The goal is 100 donations!” he says. With 400 ml donations, three a year are possible. If all goes well, he will get there in ten years. We take our hats off to him.
