On September 5, the final day of the Tokyo Paralympic Games, the women's marathon was held on a course starting and finishing at the National Stadium in Tokyo, and Misato Michishita of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance won the gold medal in the visually impaired class. The photo shows Michishita striding past the Palaceside Building.

Michishita pulled the lead pack along in the early stages, drew level with the front-runner past the 25-kilometer mark, then broke away from second place after 30 kilometers and ran alone the rest of the way, crossing the finish line with a smile. Michishita, who had won silver at the previous Games in Rio, said in an interview after the race, “I went to pick up what I left behind five years ago.”
