The Tokyo Olympics, which carried the athletes’ dynamism to the world, closed on the 8th. In the first-floor free space beside the main entrance, a mini photo exhibition hosted by The Mainichi Newspapers is conveying Japan’s performances and the emotion they stirred.

Six pictures are on view: judo’s Hifumi and Uta Abe, brother and sister, gold medals in hand; swimmer Yui Ohashi, who took two titles; the mixed doubles in table tennis and the men’s épée team in fencing, each a first world championship; and more. Also displayed is an extra edition of The Mainichi Newspapers reporting wrestler Yukako Kawai’s victory.

At the far end of the venue, mannequins (1.5 meters high) of the Olympic mascot Miraitowa and the Paralympic mascot Someity stand side by side and add a festive touch. People taking photos with phones never stop. Three days after the close, the excitement has yet to fade.
