An “advanced first-aid course” for skills and knowledge to respond to sudden illness and injury was held on July 5 at Mainichi Hall on the basement first floor. All 32 people who took it will receive Tokyo Fire Department advanced first-aid skill certificates.
Since 2014 the Palaceside Building has run the course with the goal of “placing at least one person who has completed it in each office.” Over the six years from 2014 to 2019, 165 people attended in total. Last year it was skipped because of the pandemic, so this was the first in two years.
The course began at 9:00 a.m. with three instructors from the Tokyo Disaster Prevention and Emergency Association, a public-interest foundation, and ran until near evening with a lunch break. In practice, participants worked thoroughly on a human-shaped dummy: chest compressions and rescue breathing, AED (automated external defibrillator) operation, first aid, foreign-body removal, and carrying methods.
