A Japanese Red Cross blood donation bus is standing at the west first-floor entrance of the Palaceside Building. The regular spring drive runs today and tomorrow, Thursday the 8th. As soon as reception opened at 10:00 a.m., people hoping to donate arrived, had their temperature and blood pressure taken, sat for an interview, and went on to give blood.

In the pandemic that has lasted since last year, remote work has spread at companies and online classes have taken hold at universities, so many of the usual donation sites have had to cancel, we hear.

In Tokyo, the number of donors has fallen sharply since last spring’s state of emergency and has not caught up with need. The shortfall is being filled from other prefectures and delivered to medical institutions. To get out of this “hand-to-mouth” state, we want to call widely for cooperation.

This afternoon’s session is from 12:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; tomorrow as well, reception is 10:00–11:00 a.m. and 12:15–4:00 p.m. If you have time, please come to the first-floor west entrance hall.
