Through the 29th, Tearoom Hana on the first floor of the Palaceside Building is holding a “Bewitching Mini Picture, Mini Frame Exhibition.” About 80 pictures of landscapes, people, animals, plants, and more hang on the walls. Each is a small work set in a box frame. Some are realistic; some are illustration-like.

They are by students of the Mainichi Cultural Center “Mini Picture and Mini Frame Making Course,” held on the first floor. With oil painter and standing committee member of the Contemporary Children’s Picture Association Kunio Itoi as instructor, they meet on the first and third Thursdays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. to learn from doodles of ideas through making the pictures and assembling the frames.

The flyer for the course, which accepts students at any time, says: “As completion nears, a calmness of heart is born. Why not settle down and slowly try making a treasure you love?” In these pandemic-roughened days, hanging a picture you drew in a frame you made in your own room sounds wonderful.
