Everyone, a happy New Year!
Many of you are probably starting work today. 2021 has been beautifully clear since New Year’s Day, but the news is still corona, corona, corona. Governors in the capital region have asked for a state of emergency, and Prime Minister Suga has said he will “begin considering it.” The heart cannot stay as bright as the sky.
At the Palaceside Building reception we decorated kagami-mochi again this year. Online we learn that kagami-mochi is the dwelling of Toshigami, the New Year deity. Toshigami is said to grant us the strength to live, along with the year’s happiness and blessings.
At year-end we neatly pruned the plantings around the Palaceside Building. Let us start 2021 tasting at least a fresh New Year mood. We look forward to another year with you.
