On the 28th, MOTTAINAI STATION on the first floor of the Palaceside Building hosted an Iwate Prefecture Great East Japan Earthquake recovery support display-and-sale. The highlight this time may have been apples shipped direct from farmers in Ichinoseki. Fresh, crisp Jonagold (red) and Shinano Gold (yellow) were lined in the corridor, and buyers kept coming.
Indoors, Iwate specialties were on sale: Nanbu senbei (sesame and peanut), premium mackerel cans, saury ramen, mekabu soba, tororo udon and other noodles, Sanriku wakame and kombu, and assorted pickles.
The sale has been held about once a month for two years. “Customers have settled in; we are grateful,” the staff said. It is open until 5:00 p.m., so please drop by on a break.
