In the Palaceside Building elevators, look a little upward as you step in and you will see an unfamiliar small box.... It is a Crosaido Plus Cube, a little box that works at disinfection and virus removal.

It is a product of Osaka Soda Co., a tenant in this building. It is packed with granules of chlorine dioxide, a substance with strong oxidizing power. Chlorine dioxide is used as a disinfectant in pools and water treatment and as a space sanitizer.

According to the company’s materials, it was also used to decontaminate buildings during the 2001 anthrax attacks in the United States. Of course it complies with indoor concentration guidelines; low-concentration chlorine dioxide has been confirmed to reduce airborne bacteria and viruses in closed spaces.

With COVID-19 still spreading, the company offered the cubes on a trial basis to help disinfect and remove viruses in the elevators. A charming 55-millimeter cube is cleaning the air inside.

Mainichi Building Co. has also applied an antibacterial, antiviral coating to elevator buttons. We will coat the sliding locks and switches in restroom stalls on each floor in turn.
