Giant emblems for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games hang on the west core (elevator tower) of the Palaceside Building =photo above.
As part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's program to display emblems on public and private facilities, The Mainichi Newspapers, an official newspaper partner of Tokyo 2020, installed them in late March.
They are large. On the left, a white ground holds the Olympic emblem, "TOKYO2020," the five

rings and the words "Tokyo Metropolitan Government"; on the right, the Paralympic emblem, the "TOKYO2020" logo, "PARALYMPIC GAMES" beneath it, the Paralympic symbol in place of the rings, and "Tokyo Metropolitan Government." Height is 11.5 meters, width 7 meters. The emblem alone is about 4.5 meters across.
The photo at right is a slightly distant view across Uchibori-dori. From the ground (first-floor entrance slab) to the very top is 19.5 meters.
This should have been the countdown season, mood rising toward the Games, but COVID-19 postponed them a year and the emblems look a little lonely (?). Let's take heart and watch over them, long and slow, for a little over a year more.
