On the Palaceside Building east and west cores (elevator towers), from the first basement

to the rooftop, stair-floor renovation is under way. Many will have noticed: the east (Hakusan-dori side) is almost done except for part of it, and including the west core the work is due by March 8.
The photo above is a renewed stair; photos right, above show it before. Work was concentrated on Saturdays and Sundays =photos right, below.
A closer look is the "before after" at the end. The old vinyl-chloride tiles were glossy. More than ten years after the last renovation, lifting had appeared here and there, surfaces were worn and color peeled — age was obvious.

This time we switched to slip-resistant long vinyl-chloride sheet. It feels a little rough, closer to carpet.
In fiscal 2018 we had already replaced the metal nosing (with anti-slip rubber) on each step, so this work is a continuation of that.
